Week 1

I moved to Enumclaw, WA two weeks ago in order to start my full-time pre-veterinary internship at Sawyer Lake Veterinary Hospital. Enumclaw is near Mount Rainier National Park, and it's absolutely beautiful. It's a bit cloudy and cool for me, but it's supposed to warm up soon. The woods are much more tropical than home. There are lots of pine trees, and there's moss growing on the trees. It's a beautiful place to start a job!

Sawyer Lake is a exotic and companion animal vet practice that sees all kinds of pets, including: cats, dogs, birds, lizards, bunnies, and lots more that I haven't seen yet! The vet clinic also owns a kitten rescue and a wildlife rehabilitation center called Puget Sound WildCare. I have gotten to be involved in all three aspects of the vet clinic.

I just finished my first full week of work. Working in the veterinary field is exhausting! As an intern, I have gotten to do a lot so far. I take vitals for patients that come in for appointments, such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. I also get to help with surgical monitoring, which is watching the levels of anesthetic and oxygen an animal is being given during surgery, as well as the vitals of the animal. I also help with patient intake for Puget Sound WildCare; inspecting animals admitted to the wildlife rehabilitation center for illness and injury.
